Chairman District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Central Rehan Hashmi claimed to have lifted around 34,558 tons of garbage as part of the 'city clean campaign'. The district corporation has so far spent around Rs 25 million to lift and dispose off the said quantity of waste during the first 20 days of the ongoing 100-day campaign which was launched by the Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on December 01, he said.

Briefing media persons at his office, Rehan Hashmi said that some six tractors were purchased to carry and throw the garbage outside the city. He said as many as 240 streets lights have so far been erected in his jurisdiction, whereas work on carpeting and construction of new roads would be initiated later. He said fumigation campaign has also been launched in the districts to protect citizens from diseases. The Chairman said that the first phase of the drive has been completed while the next phase would start by the January, 2017.
